Marjorie Carrington (née Fairweather) began playing the oboe at the age of 11 and soon became a member of the Devon County Youth Orchestra. She continued her studies in 1999 at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she studied with Richard Weigall, Jenni Philips and George Caird. In 2001 she took part in a four month ERASMUS exchange to Weimar, Germany and in 2003 graduated with a BMus (Hons.). During her time in Birmingham Marjorie became a finalist in the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship and won the Antony Miller Oboe Prize, Conservatoire Woodwind Prize and the Doris Newton Prize-winners Prize.

In 2004 she completed her Masters Degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studied primarily with Richard Simpson and Gordon Hunt. She has been freelancing since September 2004 and has recently performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Savoy Theatre and as a regular deputy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Woman in White at the Palace Theatre. She now has a permanent position as 2nd oboe/cor anglais with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and is living in Ljubljana.
